Biography

Argentine guitarist Agustín Nazzetta moves between the classical repertoire and contemporary music, equally at home on acoustic and electric guitar. Based in Basel, he performs as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and in Argentina. His programmes are always built around a central idea, bringing together works that tell a story or evoke images, with visceral expression and form. The acoustic guitar is the root of his work; the electric, the branch that extends it into the electronic world.

He studied guitar at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires, the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and the Musik-Akademie Basel, where he completed a Master's in Music Performance and a Master's in Music Pedagogy with Pablo Márquez, followed by postgraduate studies with Paul Galbraith. He trained in contemporary music with trombonist and composer Mike Svoboda and at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse.

He has won first prizes at the Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano (Italy), the Guitar Festival Rust (Austria) and the Savarez-Corelli Chamber Music Competition (Salzburg).

His solo repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to new works written for him. He has performed at the Musikverein in Vienna as a EuroStrings Artist, at the Stadtcasino Basel and the Theater Freiburg, and has given recitals and masterclasses at festivals in Hungary, Finland and Argentina.

He is a founding member of HOAX Quartet, a guitar quartet devoted to the music of the twenty-first century, which tours Switzerland regularly — in 2026, the RELIC tour through Basel, Bern, Biel, Lucerne and Zurich — and has appeared at venues such as BRUX Freies Theater in Innsbruck. With Marius Schnurr, highlights include the recording of Helmut Lachenmann's Salut für Caudwell and the premiere of Christian Dimpker's Drei Lieder in Berlin. He has worked with trombonist Adrián Albaladejo Díaz in the duo Supernovæ, dedicated to repertoire for electric guitar and trombone. Together with violinist Lisa Rieder he is developing an all-Piazzolla programme, where arrangement is treated as part of the style itself.

He teaches guitar and electric guitar at the Musikschule Rheinfelden, where he also directs the ensemble Sound eXperiment.
